Data Analysts in Serbia
With the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, a significant number of technical specialists have relocated from Russia to Serbia. Additionally, many companies from the post-Soviet space have either moved to Serbia or opened local offices.
Since I am among those who have moved and am currently seeking employment, I was curious to discover which companies in Serbia employ the most Data Analysts and the proportion of these who are Russian. I also explored whether there is an integration of Russian specialists into Serbian companies and, conversely, if companies from the post-Soviet space are hiring Serbs.
To investigate this, I collected data from 1,419 Data Analysts who indicated Serbia as their location on LinkedIn. I considered individuals as Data Analysts if they identified themselves as such or if it was listed in their most recent employment. The last place of employment was considered their current company, even if the analyst was currently unemployed. Citizenship was determined using various parameters, acknowledging that some bias is likely.
You can view the dashboard displaying the results. It could be a valuable resource for both Serbian and Russian analysts in their job search.
As the data reveals, mutual integration between these groups is not yet evident – companies seem to be distinctly divided into Serbian and those with Eastern European roots. Only time will tell how long it will take for these two similar professional communities to merge.
